Selecting the Right Hatcher
Egg hatchers differ from egg incubators in that they are only used during the last few days of incubation. This period of time is sometimes called "lock down" and is usually the last 3 days of incubation. During this time the humidity is often raised and egg turning is ceased to help the young birds break and escape their egg.
Do I Need a Dedicated Hatcher?
Choosing the hatcher that is best for you and your flock can be a challenge. Many small breeders choose to hatch right in the incubator, which is a great option if you don't have other eggs waiting to go in. If you do have a larger operation, or require specific hatching conditions, then adding a dedicated hatcher to your incubation setup can be a great option for freeing up space and increasing capacity and hatch rates.
