Selecting the Right Brooder
Brooders are necessary to keep your chicks warm after they hatch. Without a good brooder to keep them warm as their mother would they will often develop sickness in a short period of time. Choosing the right brooder for your hatchlings depends on a few different factors.
Number of Birds
How many birds you plan to brood can make a big difference. If you are only hatching a small number, then a radiant brooder like the EcoGlow 20 is a great option for you. However, if you are incubating large numbers, then you many want to go with something like a Battery Brooder. This will give you lots of rooms to cycle your chicks as they grow, and leave room for new chicks just hatching.
Type of Birds
The type of birds you are brooding also plays a big role in the kind of brooder you select. Most common birds such as chickens, quail, etc, are fine in a standard brooder with an overhead heat source. Other birds are much more delicate, such as birds of prey or parrot species, and require a brooder with a more controlled environment.
Size of Birds
The size of your birds will also impact how much brooding space you need. While the EcoGlow 20 will comfortable keep 20 chicks warm, it would not be the same situation for 20 turkeys. These start out as much larger hatchlings and will need more room to grow during that brooding period.
