Poultry Waterer Considerations
Clean drinking water is essential to your poultry's health. The poultry water supplies here will keep your birds out of the water reservoir and allow them to drink all they want.
Poultry Waterer Considerations
When selecting a waterer, there are 2 main considerations- access and sanitation.
Access
It is important for your flock to have ample access to water. It is the most essential nutrient to a bird's diet, and thus having unlimited access to clean drinking water will help your birds in many ways, from aiding in food digestion and waste elimination to controlling their body temperature. Providing plenty of water and multiple access points can also help to prevent bullying within your flock.
Sanitation
Sanitation itself is comprised of two parts- wasted water and waste in the water. Many commercial breeders are moving to nipple drinking systems, which allow them to effectively reduce their water waste and avoid getting debris in the water. Although this may not be a reasonable option for backyard breeders, there are some reasonable alternatives. Using a hanging feeder can help to keep waste out of the water, but can be messy. We recommend using water cups that can allow you to have multiple access points for birds and if placed properly, can also reduce wasted water.
